[kde-linux] Limit for keyboard layouts?

openSuSE v11.4; KDE v4.6
My keyboard is configured for four layouts. Now I have tried to add a
fifth. The added layout appears in the window of the layours tab, but is
overlayed with grey. The small window for the number of layouts won't
allow an increase, but will accept a reduction to three. The Help screen
for this tab says nothing about a limit to four, or any other number.
What is imposing this limit?
