[1.] One line summary of the problem:
On multicast reception if the setsockopt() SO_RCVBUF option is set too small then multicast reception is disabled.

[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
I used setsockopt() to set the receive buffer size for multicast reception. If I set the buffer size to
1024 bytes no multicast reception occurs. If I increase the buffer size to 2048 bytes then multicast
reception is reestablished. setsockopt() returns no error in either case. It seems to me that if there
is a minimum size that works, then setsockopt() should return an error if you go below that limit. I was sending
multicast messages of exactly 16 bytes(data, not including protocol bytes). I have included both the server and
client code to reproduce this problem(the server code runs on my Solaris machine, but that does not matter, it's
the receive end on the Linux box that is having the problem. I checked the wire with tcpdump() to make sure the
multicast messages were on the wire.).

P.S. Last year I used setsockopt() on a TCP connection to set the receive buffer size to 1 byte(somehow thinking
that this might speed delivery of TCP messages) and discovered that sometimes TCP messages sent from the
server would disappear completely. This did not stop reception completely like the multicast case, but
only resulted in the dropping of some TCP messages sent from the server. Maybe these are related?
Something about setsockopt() using SO_RCVBUF that's smaller then is really needed.

[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):
         Multicast, setsockopt().

    [4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):
         Linux version 2.4.22-1.2174.nptlsmp (bhcompile@tweety.devel.redhat.com) (gcc version 3.2.3 20030422 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.3-6)) #1 SMP Wed Feb 18 16:21:50 EST 2004

[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information
         resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)
         No Oops.. messages.

[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the
         problem (if possible)
         See attached files.

    [7.] Environment
         Not used.

[7.1.] Software (add the output of the ver_linux script here)

If some fields are empty or look unusual you may have an old version.
