Problems with new kernel 2.6.4

    I build the new kernel -2.6.4 with ext3 inbuilt
    support
    and I installed moduled-init-tools.
    When I boot with new kernel, there are no modules
    present.
    And My X-window is not coming.
    Iam not able to insmod or modprobe as it is giving
    error
    "Unknown symbols"

    Please reply me
