    apm=power-off fixes it. And that was necessary for really powering it
    down. The dmesg difference with apm=power-off is:

    Hmm, maybe it's time to try ACPI again for /sbin/poweroff - WOL/wake-on-keyboard

    Just tried 2.6.9: no Badness anymore but it didn't power of either unless
    I again specified apm=power-off. BTW, the earlier reported time anomalies
    are always present, on 2.6.9 too, but I don't think it is related.
