I'm not sure what your up2date problem is, but you can always download
the updated kernel from any of the numerous Red Hat mirrors, and update
manually.
ncftpget
ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/redhat/updates/9/en/os/i386/kernel-2.4.20-19.9.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh kernel-2.4.20-19.9.i386.rpm
Once you've rebooted and confirmed everything works as expected...
rpm -q kernel (should respond with multiple kernel package versions)
rpm -e kernel-2.4.20-18.9 (or whatever the older version is)
