Mouse sensitivity.

I have just bought myself (and my laptop) a small gift: a USB Microsoft Notebook
Optical Mouse (it is replacing a 15 years old antique, which I'm still storing
away in some safe place for museum purposes...).

Installation went fine: "kudzu" recognized the new "kid in town" and properly
configured everything (now, I can even use the middle button to scroll pages of
text up & down, which was not the case with the old model...).

However, there is a small problem: its sensitivity is too high for my taste,
resulting in a rather high on-screen travelling speed. No matter what I do - no
matter which window manager I use (KDE, Gnome, WindowMaker, BlackBox), the
cursor stills travels too fast on my screen.

It's worth noting that this behavior is exclusive to Linux - the same mouse
behaves much more smoothly when used under Windows XP (on the same system).

Is there any way of further reducing its travelling speed, e.g., either by
tweaking some value into any configuration file or using some utility? Would the
situation get any better if I reconnected the mouse to my system using an
    old-style PS/2 port?

    TIA,
