do you successfully login through command prompt and then issue a command
such
as "startx" to start the xwindows server - and then you are prompted for a
username
and password?

Subject: help: x server
hi !
i recently upgreded my redhat machine to 9.0. It was working fine until i
happen to restart the server from terminal without logging out from
xwindow. since then my xwindow in not working. it prompts for username and
password and doesn't progress beyond that. i've tried some commands that i
used in rh 7.0 but they don't work, any suggestions ?
Surya
