    Hi, Peter:

    Do I have to remove the existing apache first?

    That is what I thought. I tried to remove apache, but it couldn't be removed because so many dependent modules. Then I tried to remove these dependent modules, but that is too many. I could not do it.

    If I don't have to, I can following apache, php and mysql instructions to try again.

    Thanks for your time, and look forward to your email.

    Shawn

    Shawn,

    Start from /usr/sbin/apachectl, which is what you want to use.

    $ rpm -qf /usr/sbin/apachectl
    httpd-2.0.40-21.3

    Then
    $ rpm -ql httpd
    will list the contents of the rpm, including /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd.
