environmental varianbles

    hi all..

    probablyt a stupid question:

    how do i make environmental variables to stick?
    if i do:
    export JAVA_HOME="/path/to/jdk"

    and then:

    # env

    i can see the java home defined. but if i log out and then log in again.
    $JAVA_HOME desappeared from the env list. the same with PATH and others..
    on rh8.0...
