    Bad assumption. The publicly released frequency is 12-18 months and
    your certification is valid for 2 releases. This means that you're good
    for at least 2 and perhaps up to 3 years.

    You don't need to take the course unless you have no way of learning the
    material yourself. You can simply take the exam every 2-3 years and be
    current.
