Other computers cannot ping my computer

    Dear All,

    I can telnet or ping to other machines in the network. But other
    machines are not even able to ping me. Why is this happening?

    Is it because of any firewall being active which I dont know about or
    telnetd needs to be installed? If telnetd needs to be installed then
    to install it I have to follow ./configure, make and make install
    commands only?

As long as there's not a physical firewall between you and the other pc's you can see if the linux firewall is running with the iptables command ...
