alsa driver

I have installed the alsa driver. I try to play the
wave files or any other audio files. It does not give
any error. It goes thru the motions, but does not give
any sound.
I also tried
amixer set -c 1 Master 70 unmute
But no sound, yet. Could someone tell me the cure for
this?

On the main menu, "soundcard detection" also does not
give any sound. The card is working perfectly in the
windows. I am using Fedora Core 4. I have also tried
Linux Redhat 9.0

bye
shiraz
