The portmap service may have stopped.

Hi,
We have a RHEL AS 3 (Kernel 2.4.21-20.ELsmp on an i686) as our NIS and NFS
server.
Today while loging, using a NIS account, on one of our servers (a solaris
server), I am getting the following error.
login: gpunam
Password:
NFS access failed for server bangapps.bea.com: error 5 (RPC: Timed out)
No directory! Logging in with home=/
Last login: Mon Jan 30 11:34:33 from 172.22.45.128
Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.10 Generic January 2005
-bash-3.00$
I tried to login directly on the NIS server, but cannot login....looks like
the system is now stopped responding. I had to restart the server.
How do I go about finding the root cause for this issue. Please suggest.
Thanks & Regards,
