Oracle on RHEL4 with ASM problem

Folks,
we've got oracle 10.1.0.4 on our RHEL4 boxes.
We've had no probs until recently when we've setup the databases to use ASM.
Now what randomly happens is ASM can no longer write to the disks, the disks are seen by ASM but it cannot write to them.
We discovered that it is an issue with this entry in /etc/inittab:
h1:35:respawn:/etc/init.d/init.cssd run >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null
When ASM throws this error I have to comment out this entry in inittab, run 'init q', uncomment the inittab entry and run 'init q' again.
This fixes the problem.
However, we cannot have this happening, obviously. Our DBA's have raised a tar with oracle and have been searching thru metalink but so far have had no luck.
So Im wondering if any of you folks have had this problem, and found a solution for it ?
Many thanks,
Nick .
