look at /var/log/messages
and dmesg.
If you card is not working properly under linux it will give you some error
like.

Run "ethtool eth1" and look at the settings. Is the network card running

half duplex? Try setting it, and everything else on the LAN, to full
duplex. Read the man page on ethtool.
