I know what the runlevels are. What I was asking is, lessee,
networking needs to be up, but I'm not sure what other
services need to be up to bring up Oracle with no errors,
including the listener.

I've never tried in runlevel 2. I believe even the sample oracle startup
script provided in the Oracle Administration for -NIX starts oracle in 3, 4,
5.
