Ignore a directory in listing

I am trying to run the /bin/ls command but ignore a specific listing.
/bin/ls --ignore="steve" -d1 /usr/home/*
But when I run it with the -d1 option, it doesn't ignore it. Does anybody
know why? Or how to do this?
Thanks
Steve
