If You have upgraded kernel, it may happen that you forgot to include
drivers for your hdd controller. Otherwise, your Disk just broke.
Verify with BIOS if all drives are available.

Hi,

I have recently started installing RHEL 6.1 on Dell PowerEdge r710 and
observed following issues:

1. We see a progress bar on the DRAC, but the login prompt does not
appear
for a long time.
2. Also observed kernel panic a few times during reboot "Kernel panic
-
not syncing: Attempted to kill init!"

# more /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.1 (Santiago)

# uname -r
2.6.32-131.21.1.el6.x86_64

Please suggest.
Thanks,

Make sure your system firmware is up2date, BIOS, BMC, iDRAC PERC, etc.
Check support matrix from Dell to see if 6.1 is supported on 710. Did
you
test your image. Make sure it is not corrupt. Bios to default settings.
If
still the same, remove PCI cards from back risers.
Contact Dell support.

RHEL 6.x supports PERC controllers out-of-box.
Instalation may fail because of exposed vfat partitions on the USC.
Check RHEL manuals from support.dell.com.
