    Thanks Johnny, that seemed to do the trick. Seems a little backwards, though.
    I did notice that copying icons to the Konq filemanager placed an additional
    copy on the desktop, so in deleting one copy I noticed that the "errant"
    icons had been in the location /tmp/kde-.../desktop-0, or some such, but was
    in /tmp anyway. I deleted the icons from the /tmp... location so there were
    not two copies. Still seems a little convoluted for what should be fairly
    simple desktop behavior. Thanks again for your assistance. Richard
