    I think that you will find that any version of gcc 3.3 will not compile the
    kernel correctly. This came up in the kernel mailing list on July 2 2003 and
    Alan Cox said that some of the drivers will not build correctly with gcc 3.3

    The offical line is that you should use gcc 2.95 but I have gotten gcc 3.2 to
    build a 2.4.20 kernel on my Debain box.
