    I now meet all criteria and am about to sign up for an adsl connection from my ISP (currently 56k dialup). I am seeking advice from those more experienced than I as to the best options to suit my situation.

    I currently have a 4 machine network operating through a 5 port switch. This main machine (SuSE 8.2) is the only one accessing the internet through the dial up. However, under the new setup I want at least one of the other machines to have access to internet.

    I only have a single nic in this machine but I have a spare and could easily add it to the machine. I run Guarddog firewall (simply could not get Susefirewall2 to do what I wanted?).

    The ISP provides a Dlink DSL-302G adsl modem as part of the installation (has both ethernet and usb connectors). I know they do support the Dlink DSL-504 router, but there is a cost to consider.

    My question is how would be the "best" way to establish the connection for my needs?

    As I understand things;
    I could drop in the 2nd nic, connect the 302G to it using ethernet and it all should work as it does now?

    I could connect the 302G to the upload link on the switch, would that give me the extra access I want?

    Both these leave the firewall at the software level on the SuSE box I presume? What about firewalling the other boxes?

    I have seen suggestions it is much better to use a router with hardware firewall for this shared environment?

    Any comments on the Dlink hardware, the preferred/simplest connection option or directions to relevant reading material would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
    Paul.
