    I haven't tried hwscan, I'm not really surprised it doesn't work in
    2.6.0, since a few things have changed in the /proc interface, I don't
    know about 2.4.21.

    However, I have had 2.6.0 running (compiled with the default compiler in
    8.2) and it runs pretty well. Try disabling hwscan with "insmod -r
    hwscan"

    I don't think the "oops on modprobe" is a general problem, I didn't see
    it, at least
