It can't be anything to do with power management. I have been using this laptop with SuSE8.2 for a few months now as a standalone machine with no issues. I decided to put it into my network and upped the security settings via YaST to suit. Now it requires me to be root to shutdown the machine, I can't do it via the taskbar anymore, even after lowering the security settings back to what they were. If I go for this approach (i.e. logoff via taskbar), it brings me back to the xlogin screen with no shutdown option there either. I then need to log back in, open a shell as root and '#shutdown -h now'

    I'm running out of ideas.

    Thanks
