    I had no battery info after installing SuSE 8.2 on my Compaq laptop, but after
    following a tip on this list it works just fine.
    The tip was:

    In order to get my battery monitor up and running under kde (and I'd assume
    gnome as well), I had to add the following two lines to
    /etc/init.d/boot.local.

    modprobe ac
    modprobe battery
    -----
