[SLE] sound problems on a Toshiba Tecra 8100 running SuSe 8.1 or 8.2

    I've had a bunch of complaints from co-workers over the last couple days
    that their sound on specifically the laptop mentioned below isn't
    working. So I said I would forward what the deal was to the SLE and see
    if any of you had suggestions. I'm doing this because the SLE generates
    to much traffic and none of them wanted to join with that much mail
    coming from one list. *laugh*

    Anyway. Any suggestions would rock.

    Hello, I have a problem with sound working under 8.2 on a Toshiba Tecra
    8100. ALSA claims that the Yamaha card in it (YMF-744B [DS-1S Audio
    Controller]) has been supported since version 0.5.8 but it does not. Sound
    used to work just fine on SuSe 7.3, but when I changed to 8.1 it stopped
    working. I initially thought it was something I had done, but a friend with
    the same system has the exact same problem. I have now tested it on a third
    laptop with the exact same results.

    I even tried grabbing the latest ALSA src, compiling and installing it
    with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
