[SLE] Compaq and SuSE 8.2

    Hey Group;

    This is the first machine that I have tried to install SuSE on that
    failed on the CD boot. It failed on something just after the detection
    of the HD. An error message suggested turn of ACPI and I aslo added
    APIC. But the same failure. It locks up the machine and mention (as I
    remember) VFS.

    It is on a 4 to 5 year old Compaq Persario (SP) Pentium ? with VIIx4
    chipset Another reason not to buy a HP/Compaq..

    Note: he has a old SuSE 7.0 installed and it boots. There is a story
    about upgrading SuSE 7.0 today.

    Speaking of memories 7.0 versus 8.2.

    Any clues on how to solve this problem? Even KNOPPIX fails to boot.
