I can't say I have used Galeon, but I have experienced the same
problem. Usually, and I couldn't tell you exactly where to look,
programs install their preference file (mac term) in a different place.
This file controls how the program acts and is the most likely culprit
on a buggy program because they are so easy to corrupt.. Generally,
when you un-install a program the preference fill is left in place so
when you reinstall it is used by the program again and generally with
the same results. Try removing the preference program and see what
happens. Searching by date modified might help in the process.

Sorry I don't have more precise help. Just a direction to look in.
Someone will probably post something specific soon. It's still early.
