    Ok I edited the /etc/leafnode/config file and put in
    hostname = localhost.localdomain.
    but that didnt work :)
    The error message is now

     linux:/etc/leafnode # fetchnews
    config: hostname localhost.localdomain. is not a valid fully-qualified domain
    name, exit.

    Any ideas?
