We are there to help. The catchword in your torture story was VIA-KT
chipset on your motherboard. And that you have gotten to see the nvidia
logo. I am 100% sure that you have problems with your graphics card
because it tries to run X at 4x AGP speed and your KT-via chipset can not
    handle it well.

This is my understanading on the subject. You need to manually tweak your
installer, so that you can tell X beforehand to run at 2x or 1x.

    run your installer as

    sh installer.run --extract-only

[verify this switch on command line]

and then find the file os-registry.c where you can manually set this
parameter. Tell X not to probe hardware for 4x speed. If that is still too
much, you can tell it to run at 1x and all shall be fine.

Search this same list and I am absolutely sure that I [as well as someone
else] has posted a complete reply.
