    I'd say you also have to watch out with the modules. I am not 100% sure of this, but if
    you have compiled your own kernel and install a new one from rpm, without re-compiling,
    it will not find the deps for the modules and it might not boot.

    Some one more proficient than me in kernels...am I right?
