If it is not a dumb Win modem in SuSE it is rather easy if it is a serial Com port
modem use Yast2. Try "minicom" which can help find the modem and or "hwinfo
--modem". If it is PCI then as I remember it is most likely ttyS4. Link /dev/modem
to which ever device it is. Also try wvdial after configuring /etc/wvdial.conf.
Problems after connecting normally come from "pppd died" which normally is a problem
with the permission set on /usr/sbin/pppd - Security Headaches again.
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root dialout 217696 2003-05-23 07:26 /usr/sbin/pppd
fix it
Also set it in /etc/permission.(whatever you use)
