I that same (almost) mouse too and had problems with SuSE 8.0 but
last night I installed 9.0 and it seems to work with no trouble.
I actually have a ps2 mouse also. The wireless keyboard has a
built in stick which is connected to the ps2 port but I prefer using
the trackball so I have the Logitech cordless trackball receiver
    connected to the usb port.

I would have to look that up but I didn't have any trouble installing
9.0 last night so I didn't have to tamper with any files
