Thank you, Chris, for the hint which solved the problem I mention above
(but now I have another (?) bigger hassle).

I have a new motherboard and haven't yet got used to it- unlike my
previous mobos some of the menus are more than 1 page big and so I keep
forgetting to scroll down and don't see all the parameters to be set.
Therefore I missed the one which is USB KEYBOARD Enable/Disable. Your
message got me on to the right track. So now I can select the options
    from the SUSE startup menu.

    But there is another problem.

The keyboard AND mouse are not active when I boot into THAT system :-).
The braindead thing sits there waiting for me to type in my password to
logon - but there is no keyboard (nor mouse, but fortunnately I have
another USB (trackball) mouse installed and I can use that to reboot the
    computer :-)).

Ah well, I'll worry about this one later on today after I get some sleep.

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers.
