Several years ago I installed linux on an AMS 200MHz laptop along side
    Win95.
The machine has a bios extender from System Soft that I had previously
installed when I upgraded the disk.
I could not get GRUB and the bios extender to get along together. It
appeared that they both wanted to use the first track of the disk.
Switching to LILO solved the problem for me.
