    Same thing here. The service scripts are in /etc/init.d/ . Simply apply
    /etc/init.d/<service> start or stop or restart or status or whatever you
    want to do with it.

    I am not exactly sure what you mean. You can simply start an X-session
    remotely for example by logging in via ssh and using the -X option from
    another linux or UNIX box. You probably knew this already :).
    As for a windows machine, there may be more to it, i.e., setting up an
    X-server that the windows client can understand. I haven't done the latter
    myself, so can't really comment, except for the availability of vnc which
    ought to work well with windows boxes.
