And you will continue to get that message until you have done what it says,
ie. fix the problem.
You should have shown the whole message but if you are using the reiserfs on
the partition that failed and it says something about rebuild tree then maybe
I can help you.
Recovery is not that big a deal, except I have not found a simple howto
anywhere! So, after reinstalling many times to solve this kind of problem I
finally hit upon the easy way which follows.
Find your copy of fstab. You do have a hard copy of that dont you? You will
need a Rescue disk or the #1 cd from SuSE. Then:
1. Insert your rescue disk or #1 cdrom and restart the machine selecting
Rescue System.
2. When up and at Rescue login Type root (no password required)
3. Now you must/can check each partition from the command line with:
fsck /dev/hdan (where n is each partition number.) Also do each hdb
parition, etc.
If you are checking ext2 filesystems, it will simply run and give you and ok
or some error message,. If you are checking a reiser file system, it will
show you an ad and ask if "you want to run this program?"
Type Yes and hit enter.
It will check each parition and if it has no problem on that partition it will
simply say ok so you go on to checking the next partition.
When you finally find the bad one you will see some cryptic crap about
rebuild-tree. Here's is where you can fix the problem.
Type: (assuming you have reiserfs)
reiserfsck --rebuild-tree /dev/hdnn (where nn is the drive/parition that
failed the check)
at the prompt type:
Yes and hit enter. Use upper case Y in this case.
You will then see the machine go through all sorts of gyrations and if all
goes well it will simply end!
NOW, to restart press Control+ D and it should restart. Remember, in the
original error message it says you can only restart with CTRL-D.
It worked for me and I hope it helps you.
