    If file "/etc/fetchmailrc" exists and is configured, then script
    "/etc/ppp/poll.tcpip" (which is automatically started on every
    modem connection going up) will run fetchmail.

    You might have set this up inadvertently using yast to set up mail.

    Yast has the option to define mail servers. I simply disabled
    "/etc/ppp/poll.tcpip", because I use my own "/etc/ppp/ip-up.local" script
    instead.
