    Well, thanks for the suggestion Vic, but .......... I forgot to mention that
    I'm running SuSE 9.0 and SuSE's SDB explicitely states the following :
    ===================
    Symptom
     SUSE LINUX 9.0 ignores the entries in the file ~/.xsession.
    Cause
     SUSE LINUX 9.0 only considers entries in the file ~/.xinitrc.
    Solution
     Write the content of the file ~/.xsession to the file ~/.xinitrc.
    ===================
    So, it really should execute .xinitrc, but it doesn't. :-(
    Cheers,
