Hello,
I have a dual boot Dell C800 latop with Windows 2000 and SUSE 9.0
installed on it. I had some problems with the initial installation
where I could not get a working X windows configuration. I was able to
finally solve that problem with SUSE's help but I have a 2nd problem
with using my pcmcia wireless adapter.
I am unable to get the wireless adapter (CISCO Aironet 340 card)
working automatically on bootup. The installation tried to use the
onboard ethernet port as eth0 and the wireless card as eth1. When I ran
dhcpcd, it tried to use the eth0 address by default when attempting to
get the dhcp lease information.
Once I got the X-windows problem fixed, I was able to install CISCO's
acu utility to check the wireless card status and SSID settings (the
card was coming up and associating okay).
I reloaded the system and configured the wireless card as eth0 (did not
configure the onboard ethernet connection). When the laptop boots up,
the system does not bring up eth0 so the dhcpcd client can't get any
information. I ended up adding a script to /etc/rc.d/rc5.d to bring up
eth0 with 'ifconfig' and then run 'dhcpcd'.
This works, but it seems like a kludge to me. Does anyone have any
advice on getting the network script to properly start the wireless
interface? I did try adding a higher link to the network script in
/etc/rc.d/rc5.d but that did not make any difference.
