you didn't say why you wanted to change the name,
however, James' suggestion of just making a link sounds like
it might work with the least hazzle. You might need to add
a directory (mkdir) or do you already have "wlan" and "eth" ???
Whatever, see "man ln"
for info on setting up both hard and symbolic links.
(particurily the -s option, which is a symbolic link)
