I just installed 9.0 on a new box with a P4 on an Intel D875PBZ board
with 2 IDE drives and 2 SATA drives. In BIOS, there are 3 choices (in
one option) to either 1) Disable all drives, 2) Legacy - which allows
BIOS to only see the IDE drives, 3) Enhanced - which allows BIOS to see
both the IDE as well as the SATA drives. On installation of SuSE 9.0,
I had to have BIOS in Legacy to load the OS. If in Enhanced mode, boot
from DVD would hang while detecting/probing the legacy drive. Once
installed, I reset BIOS to Enhanced and the OS booted fine and all
drives (IDE & SATA) were visible and useable. I don't detect any speed
differences between the drives. The IDE & SATA function the same as
    far as I can tell.
