    I see you're a student of ontology. I guess that means vague, imprecise
    questions is your field. Then I can offer a vague, imprecise answer: it
    depends

    (Specifically, it depends on the model of your modem. WinModem isn't a brand,
    is it Lucent? Conexant? Which? There are drivers for some linmodems, not for
    others)
