Thanks Kastus.
What isn't explicitly mentioned in this article is what happens to uptime when
the desktop value is on the boot line in grub/lilo. Uptime is cut to 1/10 its
normal value. Thus uptime is reset for you just under 50 days (49.7 or so)
where it normally wouldn't get reset for just under 500 days (497 or so).
