    Michael,

    I had the same problem on 9.0 with a VMware Win2000 guest OS and a C84
    printer.

    The only solution I found was to *not* install the drivers locally, but
    to install them on the (Linux) Samba server, and have Samba install them
    in Windows when you create the network printer.

    To do this the easy way, you actually use the Windows Add Printer
    Wizard.

    There are also other good tips in that doc that will help ensure you
    have a solid Samba setup.
