I just had an interesting experience with my system. There is a YOU patch for
X, if you haven't noticed. After I applied it, I continued to work in what I
had opened (XEmacs). I went to close one of the XEmacs windows (frames for
purists) and wham! My X restarted all by itself. I will therefore advise
that you close your apps before applying the patch, and restart X for
yourself.
