Have you tried using a symbolic link?
ln s /dev/lp0 /dev/ttyS1
or perhaps
ln s /dev/lp0 /dev/modem
Point kinternet to the correct /dev and give it a try. I have never used a
parallel port modem before, but I believe it should work.
