I had issues with my new DVD burner/reader in installing 9.0 on my home
system (not a P4C800 but a rather old Abit mobo). The only way it worked
was to hang it on the slave of the first IDE channel. I am not saying that
this is necessarily your problem, but it might be something to check.

Well if it hangs on setting up the partition one would think it has to do
with the drives.

Do you need that drive in the box at all? If I understand you correctly
you have two new WD drives set up and you were planning to install on
one of them? In order to identify the problem more closely you might want
to go to a minimal setup, i.e., just one hard drive, and the DVD drive.
