Hi Kevin,
I've run into similiar problems with my onboard systems and posted a query to
this board here on June 6th. - I couldn't find a final answers, but meanwhile
I've got some of the sound working here.
First, I checked the driver with
> modprobe snd-via82xx - returned:
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/modules.dep: No such
file or directory
I checked the directories:
> ls /lib/modules
. .. 2.6.4-54.5-default 2.6.4-override-default precompiled scripts
My temporary solution is
> ln -s /lib/modules/2.6.4-54.5-default /lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default
Reading trough the kernel sound documentation, I've come across the support
option for DXS channels. The default value by YaST is 0, which seems not to
be supported by the via chip. After changing the settings to 1, I've
definitely got some improvements.
- now the volume test in YaST works.
- dito the sound test within KDE-Control-Center
- even playing sound files with XMMS works.
- but no sound during KDE start-up
- no sound from KsCD, while the CD control works fine
- but interestingly, Xine can play the CD with sound
Lacking time and some better advise, this is what I've achieved so far. -
Maybe this can help you any further, or we can attracked new attention from
other board members for this problem.
Regards,
Rainer Klein
