I have been following the various threads that take SuSE to task for all the
problems upgrading to 9.1. So with some trepidation I decided yesterday to
do it to my main machine. I had done a fresh install on three other
machines earlier. The machine uses a Asus mobo with an AMD duron running at
950 megs with 1+ gigs of ram.
Started it up, told it to ignore the conflicts with kde which had been
upgraded earlier and said go. It did! Only one error message that BASS
wasn't available or something, so I said skip. When it finished it tried to
go on line for an update but couldnt hook to the LA mirror, just like the
rest of my installs. So I told it to look for gwdg and it did and updated
everything and so far it is working better than it did with 9.0.
I can now plug my usb pen drives and they work.
One minor hitch was my cdrom. The link was supposed to be to hdd and had
changed to hdc which is the dvd writer. Changed the link and all is well.
If I can do an upgrade with so little trouble, anyone can do it!
I wonder if I should go into the tmp and home directories and delete any of
the old config stuff or simply let things happen. Being lazy, I think I'll
play like I'm a windows user and just play and see what happens.
Now if I could just get my win98 to boot up so I can do my taxes next
year. . . . . . .
