    Maybe you are trying to use tape backup software for your backup
    harddisk... That would cause all those problems...
    But have a look at StoreBackup. It's designed for backup to disk.
    is extreemely easy to setup, and offers more than a tape backup
    could dream of. It's on the SuSE Cd's so it's just a little click
    away from being installed, tested...

    Although I don't know if it handles removable hardisks...

    If you are doing backups to hard disk, you really should use software
    designed for disk, not tape...
